THE HISTORY OF CANNABIS IN GERMANY

THE STONE AGE

Believe or not, cannabis dates back in Germany to the Stone Age where seeds were planted roughly 7,500 years ago. Cannabis was found in Thuringia and Wilmersdorf in the 5th century, and many tribesmen were using hemp for medicinal purposes, well into the 19th century.

PROHIBITION BEFORE LEGALIZATION

In 1982, Germany passed a law that prohibited cannabis; it wasn’t until 1996 that the government lifted the ban as protests increased around hemp. The cultivation and use of cannabis for medical purposes is already widespread in Germany and continues to increase. In 2017, cannabis was legalized for medicinal purposes and paid for by health insurance.

HILDEGARD VON BINGEN

Rural German writer, philosopher and visionary, Hildegard von Bingen believed in the “green power” of cannabis and encourage the use for its medicinal properties. She argued that hemp was beneficial for fiber, nutrition, and possibly recreation.

Distribution in Deutschland

In 2017, pharmacies in Germany sold more than 230,000 pharmaceuticals containing medical cannabis. In addition to CannabiGold CBD products, The Green Organic Dutchman is thrilled to supply premium, certified organic cannabis to the medical community.

Certified organic and sustainably grown in living soil, TGOD’s Unite Organic is the perfect balance between fruity OG flavours and earthy tones. With a blend of lemony, peppery, and piney aromas and flavours, this dense bud has a wide breadth of uses.
